I have been working in USB drive market since almost 10 Years and I told him… well you have just bought a fake; never add any sensitive data on it!!!
When you plug the drive to your computer, it indicates the 250 Gb capacity, you can add some files like on whatever USB drive, but reaching one point, you realize that for most of the files you just get a kind of “Print screen” of your files and you cannot open most of them.
This technique is used a lot in the USB promotion industry: some factories can give you a very attractive price, 20% or 30% lower than the normal price, and in that case they modify the way your computer understand the capacity. In fact in each USB drive there is a “Controller” which is a kind of small program that makes the link between the USB Chip and your computer. So for example they can use 1 Gb Chip and your computer will read it as a 4gb. You will not discover at first, but when your customers will complain, I let you imagine the image you will give.
For this reason, never trust any factory who gives you a too competitive price.
